EMCC beats Northeast in Scooba

Northeast Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams fell to the East Mississippi Community College Lions and Lady Lions in Saturday’s double-header on the hardwood.
Head Coach Ricky Ford’s Lady Tigers (10-9, 5-4) lost in game one 90-70 while Head Coach David Robbins’ Tigers (9-11, 5-4) were defeated in game two 74-61.
The Lady Tigers had two players score in double-digits with Patra Hubbard leading the way for Northeast with 17 followed by Anna Brooke Page who added 12.
East Mississippi got a game high 20 points from Natalie Tate and 16 from Kierra Jones while Raven Howard and Kiara Quiones-Noa both had 11 for Head Coach Sharon Thompson’s squad.
On the men’s side, Northeast was knotted at 33-all at the break against the Lions however, poor second half shooting from the floor, and from the foul line, proved to be too much to overcome down the stretch for the Tigers.
Northeast (9-11- 5-4) only hit 32-percent from the floor (19-of-59) while going 5-for-24 (21-percent) from the behind the arc in the nightcap–0-of-11 from downtown in the second half.  T
The Tigers’ rally effort in the second half fell short mainly due to off the mark free throws where they only hit 8-of-17 shots from the charity stripe.
East Mississippi hit 46-percent of its shots on the floor and went 19-of-29 (66-percent) from the foul line but only managed one trifecta in the game on hitting on 1-of-13
Leading scores for the Tigers were Jermaine Hollimon (18), Tyler Pritchard (12), and Robert Wade, who was one rebound away from another double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Lions had five players in double-digits led by Jonathan King’s 20 point 13 board performance, followed by 13 from Donovan Walker and 12 for DJ Evans. . . while Deon Bedford and Deonte Alexander both dropped in 11.
Northeast faced Coahoma Community College in another North division match-up on Monday night.
