I am delighted to see my yellow jonquils coming up. None have bloomed yet, but I am anticipating their popping open with a burst of yellow blooms. To me it is the first promise of spring, a rebirth from the drab dreary winter. My jonquils are especially dear to me since I transplanted them from the old homeplace in Houston, Miss. My daddy especially loved them, so it makes me feel my daddy’s presence during the time they are blooming.
Two of our younger members have been sick.
LuLu Williams, daughter of Bro. Louie and Melissa Williams, had pneumonia and Cason Robbins, son of Jason and April Robbins, had RSV. We are glad that LuLu and Cason are both better and were able to be at church today.
Malcolm Rhea is recuperating from having a stint put in his heart this past week.
Betty Guthrie has been having health problems and needs to have surgery on a nerve in her neck. Before she schedules the surgery, she is having to undergo extensive testing on her heart to be sure she can tolerate the surgery. This week she is scheduled to have an echocardiogram and next week a stress test. Betty is the mother of Sheila Childers.
Martha Owen has suffered another loss. Her brother, Dr. Boyd Zachery of Towson, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15. Before retirement he had been a doctor at John Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. His body was brought back to Houlka for burial in the same cemetery where Martha’s husband, Raymond, was laid to rest.
Macedonia Baptist is collecting money to build a church in the Philippines. We have a jug at church that we pass around and ask for donations. It started out as giving a dollar a week, but we would be glad for anyone to give as much as possible. Martha Owen started this project, and it was one of Raymond’s dreams, so we have decided to build the church in Raymond’s memory. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, contact the church.
Ernestine Principi, Chris Long’s grandmother, fell Sunday and broke her hip. She is better known to all of us as Granny. We hope Granny will bounce back from this setback and be able to be up and about soon.
Our new sanctuary is coming along nicely. The inside walls have been painted, most of the stained glass windows have been installed, the electrical wiring is done, and the concrete is poured for the front porch. Next on the agenda is laying the carpet, completing the crosswalk between the office building and the sanctuary, and the construction of the porch. The projected date for being in our new sanctuary is about a month. Our new seats won’t be here by then, so we will have to make do with some chairs until then. Every time I round the corner coming to church, I am amazed at the steeple of the sanctuary. It seems to reach so far up into the heavens.
On Sunday, Feb. 20, we had two new additions– Hunter Malone and Delores Ryder. Both will be baptized at a future date. We welcome these two into our fellowship.
Flowers were placed in the church Sunday morning in loving memory of Danny Henderson by his wife, Kathryn, and their two children, Jaime, and Timbo Henderson and their grandson, Parker. Danny’s birthday was Feb. 20. It seems hard to believe that Danny has been gone almost ten years.
Sunday night Cory Lancaster preached his licensing sermon at Macedonia. He has been called to preach, and I know he and his wife, Marianne, will have a long fruitful ministry with the Lord.
Thought for the week: For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalm 84:10-11 KJV
