All-Star events slated for this weekend

Basketball and softball All-Stars are on showcase this weekend, participating in the Northeast Mississippi Softball Coaches Association and Northeast Mississippi Basketball Coaches Association All-Star games in Tupelo and Booneville.
The slow pitch and fast pitch games took place Thursday night at Veterans Park in Tupelo, featuring five local seniors. Fast pitch opened the evening with West Union’s Danielle Taylor and East Union’s Chelsea Kuhn playing respectively for the West and East squads.
The West slow pitch All-Stars followed, Union County represented by Leah Paige Goolsby of West Union, Brooke Sides of New Albany and Callie Jo Winters of East Union. The team was coached by Lisa Bogue of West Union and Shane Sanderson of New Albany.
The NEMBCA Basketball All-Star games will take place on Saturday, June 4 at Booneville High School.
A trio of Bulldogs will play for the East squad in the 3A/4A/5A/6A All-Star game. Tadarious Coburn, Malcolm Spears and Kareem Brown will join their head coach, Brad Gray, while East Union’s Drew Bruce and Hickory Flat’s Timothy Tatum and Tyler Peters, along with head coach Michael Seger will take part in the 1A/2A game.
For the girls, Kebrina Lucas and former New Albany assistant Alisha Pickens will be apart of the 3A/4A/5A/6A girls game for the East, while Hickory Flat’s Courtney Martin and Kayla Kolivas will join Ingomar’s Kayla Stevens in the 1A/2A West team, which will be coached by Richard Byrd.
The NEMBCA All-Star activities will start at noon on Saturday with the Hall of Fame induction. Notable Union Countians who will be inducted are Sam Henderson (New Albany), Elvis Thomas (Myrtle) and Kenneth “Cat” Robbins (Ingomar, West Union).
