NA soccer beats North Pontotoc on the road

New Albany soccer picked up big division wins over North Pontotoc on Saturday, working toward its goal of playoff appearances for both boys and girls.
The Lady Bulldogs clinched a playoff berth with its 2-0 win over the Lady Vikings. After being in a deadlock at the half, 0-0, New Albany came out with two goals, one by Emily Baldridge, assisted by Kristen Olson and Olson scored the second goal, unassisted, on a corner kick.
“We had a great defensive effort by Summer Sanderson in the goal, along with Caroline Mueller, Leeta Prater, Olivia Dunnam and Anna Clair Yates,” coach Les Huntington said. “This win secures a playoff spot for us, but it’s not over for us, as we want to accomplish our next goal of winning the division.”
Anthony Fernandez scored three goals, helping the Bulldogs to a 5-4 win in extra time.
New Albany found itself down early, 2-0, and  Nathan Nanney scored the first goal for the ‘Dawgs. North Pontotoc answered with its third goal, and Fernandez scored his first goal on a free kick right before the half.
Octavio Lopez scored the fourth goal for the ‘Dawgs, and with a minute remaining in extra time, Fernandez gave New Albany the win with his third goal.
NAHS faced Corinth on Tuesday night and with play Tishomingo Co. on Friday.
