New Albany prepares for soccer playoffs

The Lady Bulldogs fell short in a quest for a division title, falling 2-1 to Corinth on Saturday.
Kristen Olson had the lone goal for New Albany, which went into overtime against the Lady Warriors. The loss placed the Lady ‘Dawgs in second going into the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday.
New Albany put itself in position for a possible division title after defeating Tishomingo County, 5-0, Friday night.
Reese Neely scored two goals, while Emily Baldridge, Olson and Megan Vann each had one goal for New Albany.  Those goals were assisted by Baldridge (2), Olson, Martha Vance Alef and Hannah Anderson.
The Bulldogs also finished second to Corinth in division play after falling to the Warriors, 4-2, on Saturday. Anthony Fernandez scored both of New Albany’s goals, and both the ‘Dawgs and Lady ‘Dawgs will travel to Lewisburg on Tuesday, playing in first round playoff action.
“We’ve grown a lot and we’ve played in the same situation we have in the past; playing so many young girls, supporting our two seniors, a junior and a sophomore,” Lady Bulldogs’ coach Les Huntington said.
“We don’t know much about Lewisburg, but based on last year’s game, we played them equally, so we believe we have a chance to do well this year.”
