Urchins swept by Saltillo

The Urchins made several attempts to come back in their game against Saltillo, but could not get over the hump, falling 73-62, on Friday.

Trailing 3-2 in the opening frame, Saltillo scored the next six points, going ahead 8-3 and took a double-digit lead moments later, up 18-7.
Chris Tables and Dontrell Lattimore kept the Urchins close in the second quarter, with Lattimore making it a six-point game at 33-27. Jareard Sadler and Brody Whitehead scored 14 of the Tigers’ 19 second quarter points, giving Saltillo a 40-29 edge at the half.
Saltillo stayed in front in the second half, and the Urchins came within five, 52-47, in the fourth after a three-pointer by Tables before tucker wood and Hunt distanced the Tigers late in the game.
Hunt led all scorers with 22 points, followed by 19 from Whitehead off the bench and 14 points from Wood.
East Union was led by Tables and Lattimore, who each had 18 points.
The Urchins will play Hatley on Tuesday in the Region 1-2A tournament at Baldwyn.

Laken Bryson 31 points, leading the Lady Tigers in a 23-point win over East Union.
With the game tied at two, Saltillo went on an 8-0 run and led 10-4 after the first. East Union had only two made field goals in the half, both by Ashley Leach, and behind 25 points from Bryson, Saltillo led 41-12 at the break.
East Union’s defense did hold Saltillo to only seven points in the third quarter and 23 points in the second half, while Leach scored 22 points in the second half, finishing with 31 in the game.
The Lady Urchins will play Hamilton on Tuesday in the Region 1-2A tournament at Baldwyn.
