Bulldogs fall to Center Hill in spring break tournament

The Bulldogs had one slip away, falling in the final inning against Center Hill, 6-4, in the first of two games at the Oxford Spring Break Tournament on Monday.
New Albany built a 4-0 lead after three innings off a game-opening home run by Ben Foster and three runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single by Jake McDonald.
With Riley Alef on the mound, the Bulldogs held the Mustangs to three hits, while the senior struck out five.
Changing pitchers in the sixth, New Albany allowed one run off three straight hits by the Mustangs, and Center Hill scored five runs off six hits in the seventh to take the lead.
Zach Russell tied the game with his RBI double, and Lance Mordachini brought in the go-ahead runs with his single.
The Bulldogs committed five errors in the loss, while Jacob Marsh, Mordachini and Trevor Schubert had multiple hits for Center Hill.
Easton Hall led the Bulldogs with three hits, and Foster Mason Maxey each had two hits.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs bounced back with a 13-2 win over South Panola.
The Tigers scored the first run of the game in the third, followed by two Bulldog runs in the bottom half of the inning. New Albany added 11 runs in the fourth to take the game in five innings.
New Albany will play in the Union Co. Tournament at Myrtle to close out spring break.
