Macedonia News, July 27, 2012
The West Union cheerleaders attended cheer camp at Mississippi State University in Starkville from July 16-19. Among those attending were Julie Canoy, Olivia Williams, Kyler Bates, Anna Hutchens, and Lacey Pickett. The group learned new cheers and competed in Camp Champs. They brought home a trophy and three superior ribbons. Great job, girls!
Melissa, Stephen, Bryce, Parker, and Brayden Childers went to St. Louis, Missouri Wednesday, July 18 and returned on Saturday, July 21. Highlights of the trip were the Arch (which Bryce climbed to the top alone), Grant’s Farm, the City Museum (kids’ museum), Union Station, and a Cardinals game. The family enjoyed the trip and are making plans to return in the fall for a football game.
Lou and Larry McQuary went to see Lou’s brother and his wife, Don and Marty Simpson, from Tuesday, July 17-Thursday, July 19. They live in Opelika, Alabama which is about 6 miles from the campus of Auburn. Don is in bad health, suffering with parkinson’s dementia.
Lou treated the family to some fresh vegetables: peas, butterbeans, okra, squash, and tomatoes. On Wednesday Lou, Larry, and Don drove through the campus of Auburn. We saw the doomed trees on Toomer’s Corner. Such a tragedy that the poisoned trees are dying!!
Mickey Page met his sister, Shirley, at Bowling Green, Kentucky on Thursday, July 19 to get his mother, Agnes Page. She will stay with Mickey and Kay for three to four months.
The Macedonia Youth Group pulled out on Friday, July 20 around lunch headed to New Orleans for a week of mission work. Ten youth attended: Alyssa Powell, Olivia Williams, Harley Watson, Ashley Herrod, Stephanie Renee, Miles Steen, Jacob Benson, Jordan Harris, Stone Fair, and Reid Williams. They “street witnessed” in the French Quarter on Saturday. On Sunday they attended the First Baptist Church in Slidell, LA and went “beach witnessing” at Pass Christian on Sunday afternoon.
The Macedonia Children Group will leave for Shocca Springs for the Centri-Kids Camp on Friday, July 27. Our children have never been to this camp before, but we have heard some wonderful things about it so I know the children’s group are in for a blessing.
Bro. Louie has been under the weather this week. He was running a fever of 103 degrees which is high for an adult. By Sunday he was better so he and Chase left after the morning services to head to New Orleans to be with the Youth group and the rest of his family. Melissa, Reid, Olivia, and LuLu left with the group on Friday.
Malcolm Rhea took his last chemo treatment on Thursday, July 19. We rejoice that he has accomplished this goal.
Mr. Jack Jones was 97 on Sunday, July 22. Family gathered at his home to celebrate this milestone. Those present were: Paul, Susan, Carter, Avery, and Jack Hall; Julie and Bowen Gordon; Diane and Sonny Downs; and Ruby and Jack Jones. Dwight and Sarah Hall stopped by also. They had homemade ice cream, red velvet cake, sugar free peach cobbler, and BBQ.
Mr. Jones has not been in good health for several months. Diane is staying with Mr. Jack and Miss Ruby all the time now. We all need to remember this family during the time of Mr. Jones’ illness.
Sunday night Cory Lancaster preached in Bro. Louie’s absence. He preached on faith and did an excellent job.
On Sunday, July 29 we will have a Judgment House Rally during the worship hour. BBQ will be served for lunch that day.
Also next Sunday we will have a prayer walk at West Union School at 2:30 p.m. Come out and join with us as we pray over this next school year. Looking at the happenings in Colorado makes us realize how much we need the protecting hand of God during these troubling times.
Thought for the week: A smile is a curve that sets things straight.
