South Pontotoc tops Lady Eagles in softball

West Union was unable to hold off the Lady Cougars’ offense, falling 12-8 to South Pontotoc on Tuesday.
Lacey Higgins highlighted the opening inning with a base clearing triple, adding to South’s 1-0 lead, making it 4-0.
Over the course of two innings, the Lady Eagles tied the game at four with RBI hits coming from Hannah McQuary, Grace Rutledge, Julianna Garner and Gina Beth Conlee.
South Pontotoc broke the tie in the fourth, scoring four runs off three straight hits from Shelby Luther, Breanna Kitchens and Lindsey Jaggers.
The lead was short-lived, as the Lady Eagles responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two on a hit from Bailey Bogue and two more runs off errors.
Kitchens gave the Lady Cougars their final lead in the sixth, scoring one run and added three more in the seventh to take the win.
Jagger had four hits to lead South Pontotoc, folowed by three hits from Mackenzie Denton and two from Luther, Katelyn Ferguson and Gayle Holcomb.
Conlee had three hits for West Union, and McQuary, Rutledge and Jesslyn Brewer each had two hits in the loss.
Also on Tuesday, Reid Little and Lauren Koon had three hits each in Ingomar’s 18-1 win at Hickory Flat. Kate Webb had a triple and a home run in the win.
