Hurricane news

The first days of February have ranged from rain to sleet in the neighborhood. This weather is typical for Mississippi as one day we are battling the cold, and then the next day the forecast will be balmy with tornado warnings.
The Class of 1950 of Hurricane High hosted a birthday bash for Faye Graham Dillard’s 80th birthday at her home on Jan. 27. Those attending the event are as follows: Dorothy Todd Bailey, Ruthie Bullard Garrison, Bob and Jo Lane Todd Warren, Rivers and Jeanette Sneed Jones, Jay and Sarah Benjamin Garrett. Special guests from Pontotoc were B. Baker and Dot Boatwright.
Sunday afternoon guests of Faye Dillard on Jan. 28 were her cousins, Eldrice Weeks of Pontotoc and Warrene Weeden of New Albany, who are the daughters of the late Arch and Clara Williams Grisham, and Jimmie G. Warren of Hurricane.
Ben, Dena, BreAnna, Benjamen, Colby and Maxine Willard surprised Daphine Williams for her birthday on Jan. 29 by treating her to lunch.
Siblings Charles Waldron and Reba Waldron Stephens of Springville, both former residents of our community, called with news of their family recently. Reba is the proud grandmother of Haley Elizabeth Lewis, who is the daughter of Tina. Haley will be at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital for heart surgery within two weeks. Also Charles had been in New York last week as he visited with his grandchildren. A special get-well wish to their mom, Betty Waldron Anderson.
Anniversary milestones were 35 for Steve and Betty Hale Stubblefield on Jan. 21.
Get-well wishes to Pat Todd, Carolyn Grisham, Dewitt Stepp, Polly Montgomery and to Winford Hudson.
Birthday wishes to Chloe Graham who celebrated her 10th on Feb. 3 as our Hooker family enjoyed having her for lunch with the grandchildren. Chloe is the granddaughter of Rev. Lee and Bonnie Graham and the daughter of Aric and Shandra Graham of Pontotoc.
Addie Brock celebrated her first birthday on Feb. 3 and is the daughter of Rev. Philip and Perri Brock at Hurricane Baptist Church. The congregation sang “Happy Birthday” to her. Other babies that were born in 2012 that were also acknowledged during the service were Maggie Maguire Hooker, Scarlet Ella Clair Montgomery, and Marilyn Gail McClure, who arrived in April, May, and June, respectively.
During the evening service Ella Kate Hooker, age 5, presented her first solo “I Have Been Blessed.”
Several in the neighborhood were at Ole Miss for the fan whiteout as the Rebels played the “Big Blue Nation” Kentucky. Some of those from the community that were there: Dan Baker Owen and Jordan Cagle of Ripley, Faye G. Dillard and Jimmie G. Warren.
Shelia Owen and I visited with Tim and Marilyn Ross at their Shady Grove home on Monday as we took by Sonic chocolate milkshakes. Tim shared a look at the gift of his new deer hunting inspired quilt that was handmade and presented to him by Lois Kidd Hill of Lone Star.
