Alvin Howe, 85

Alvin Lee Howe, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona.

He was born in New Albany on Oct. 9, 1927, to Andrew and Pearl Todd Howe. He was a Baptist and was retired from Cummins in Memphis.

Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Glenfield Funeral Home with the Rev. Kara Blackard, the Rev. Marty Merritt and the Rev. Cory Hall officiating. Interment was at Glenfield Memorial Park.

He is survived by son, Dennis Howe of Southaven; seven grandchildren, Rachel Tatum, Meghan Melver, Jody Hollowy, Natalie Sartin, Andrew Howe, Cody Howe and Caitlin Howe; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde and Bobby Howe, both of New Albany; and sister, Betty Ruth Lessel of New Albany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lavada Howe; son, Stanley Howe; brother, Travis Howe; and three half-brothers, Thurmond, Raymond, and Loyd Robbins.

Pallbearers were John Tatum, Wade McIver, Keith Holloway, Randy Sartin, Andrew Howe and Cody Howe. Honorary pallbearers were Timothy Swords and Mitch Hall.

Memorials can be made to Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona.
