Neil Montgomery, 55

Murry Neil Montgomery, 55, of Hurricane, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at his residence.

He was a member of Sand Springs Community Church. He graduated from North Pontotoc High School in 1975 and attended Itawamba Junior College. He graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in education. He taught school for a total of 34 years. He taught chemistry, physics, and at the Alternative School and had been the Pontotoc County Drug Education coordinator. He enjoyed photography, sports, tennis, chess and spending time with his family.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Sand Springs Community Church with the Rev. Charlie Ransier and the Rev. Troy Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his sister, Sondra McGann of Sale Creek, Tenn.; one brother: Tranny Montgomery (Zelda) of Hurricane; a sister-in-law, Jerry Ruth Montgomery; three nieces, Becky Montgomery Tutor, Nicole Montgomery Simmons and Beth Montgomery Wray; three nephews, Nathan Montgomery, Michael McGann and Mac McGann; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews, Emma, Ben, Leah, Luke, Dalton, Savannah, Makenzi, Natalie and Stone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thurman Montgomery and Eura Faye Benjamin Montgomery; his brother, Johnny Montgomery; and a niece, Natalie Montgomery Bailey.
Pallbearers were Jason Wray, Nathan Montgomery, Mac McGann, Michael McGann and Shane Montgomery.
