Willene Thomas, 89

Martha “Willene” Goodman Thomas, 89, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 11, 1923, in New Albany to William Henry Goodman and Mattie Lou Coltharp Goodman. She retired from Sam Carey Lumber Company in Memphis, where she worked as an executive secretary. She was a member of New Albany Presbyterian Church until she moved to Memphis in 1957. While in Memphis she was a member of Colonial Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 1961 until 2008. Upon moving back to New Albany she rejoined New Albany Presbyterian Church.
Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at United Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Bill Everett officiating. Burial was in New Albany City Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Thomas Nichols (Don) of New Albany; a daughter-in-law, Regina Thomas of Galloway, Tenn.; a brother, Richard Coltharp Goodman (Erma) of Oxford; five grandchildren, Jennifer Morrison (Mitch), Brock Nichols, Kyle Nichols (Kim), Stephanie Hanks (Brad) and Will Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Brycen Morrison, Adam Hanks and Kay Lynn Hanks; and a sister-in-law, Moeselle Thomas Baker of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Lavaughn Thomas Sr.; a son, Joe Thomas Jr.; and a brother, W. Hayes Goodman.
Pallbearers were Daniel Brock Nichols, Philip Kyle Nichols, William Thomas, Bradley Hanks, Mitch Morrison, Howard Roberts, Lee Kelley and Don Nichols.
