Hal White, 6

Harold Taylor “Hal” White Jr., 64, of Jackson passed away on March 28, 2013, from complications associated with an aneurysm.

Hal was born on March 13, 1949, in Hattiesburg and spent his childhood in Stone County. After graduating from Booneville High School in 1967, Hal attended the Northeast Mississippi Community College on a football scholarship where he received a degree in Hospitality Management. Hal also attended his beloved Mississippi State University. Hal met and married his soulmate, Ann Getwan, on July 17, 1988, and they spent the next 25 years together building family and community.
Hal, along with his middle brother Malcolm, opened and operated historic Hal & Mal’s, a downtown Jackson institution, in 1985.
He is survived by his devoted and gracious wife, Ann; his brothers, Malcolm and Brad; his daughters, Brandi Lee and Erica White; his son, Taylor; son-in-law, P.J. Lee; and his grandchildren, Cameron White, Cailyne White and Rivers Lee.
A funeral service was held at St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Jackson on Monday, April 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9 until 10:45 a.m. A celebration to honor the life and legacy of Hal White was held at Hal & Mal’s on Monday evening from 6 until 9:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Harold T. White Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hinds Community College and/or St. Richard’s Catholic Church, of which he was a faithful member.
