UNITE presents grants

The Union County-New Albany Initiative to Excel (UNITE) is hosting a grant awards presentation and fundraising dinner on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the New Albany First United Methodist Church.

The event, described as a community celebration, will recognize those organizations that use grant funds to improve the quality of life for residents of Union County, and will celebrate community members who provide financial support for the foundation.

Tax deductible contributions to UNITE from individuals, businesses, agencies, and organizations support the grant program. More than $18,000 will be awarded to 13 non-profit agencies in Union County.

Since the first grants were awarded in 2003, approximately 130 grants totaling more than $200,000 have been awarded to approximately 30 organizations. UNITE, one of 12 CREATE affiliates, returns approximately 41percent to the community, surpassing all other counties which average approximately 22 percent.

In 2011, UNITE received the James Hugh Ray Affiliate Award primarily as a result of the rate of return to the community.

Anyone who would like to attend the award presentation and fundraising dinner may request a reservation by calling Collett Cross at 316-0808 or emailing her at cbcross@bellsouth.net. There is no cost to attend.

The Board of Directors asks that individuals consider UNITE when giving memorials or honorariums, end-of-year-giving and estate planning.   A contribution to UNITE is a perpetual gift that stays in Union County.  Contributions to UNITE may be mailed to P. O. Box 125, New Albany, MS 38652. Additional information about UNITE can be accessed at unitecommunityfoundation.com.
