Jerry Bell Sr., 64

Jerry Don Bell Sr., 64, of Sherman, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., after an extended illness.

He was born in Birmingham, Ala., on Dec. 5, 1948, to Clarence Bell and Dessie West Bell. He married Beverly Simms on June 13, 1972, and they shared 36 years together living in various parts of Mississippi and Tennessee over the years while he worked in construction, building many bridge and culvert structures on which we are fortunate to travel each and every day. He was a devoted and loving husband, retiring in the early 2000s to care for his wife as sole caregiver, until her death in 2008. He had recently moved from Tupelo to Pikeville, Tenn. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved gardening and spending time with family, friends and his four dogs. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman. He was a big Alabama Crimson Tide fan. When the Crimson Tide played against the Ole Miss Rebels, he chose to be neutral because of his sons and grandson. He was hard working, loving and highly respected by his family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life service was held  at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Tupelo chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Clay Faircloth of Nashville, Tenn., officiating. Burial was in Sherman Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors Tupelo Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
