Nathan Smith, 92

Nathan Hugh Smith, 92, of Myrtle, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Chickasaw County to Hugh Clifton Smith and Dot Allen Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of the Union County Schools, Mississippi Highway Department and the Myrtle Baptist Church, where he was a member.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at United Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Earl Farley officiating. Burial was in the Glenfield Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Clela Mae Mitchell Smith of Myrtle; daughter, Carolyn Gregory (Allen) of Myrtle; son, Ray Smith (Elizabeth) of Myrtle; three sisters, Joanavee Aaron of Pontotoc, Louise McCormick of Bruce and Sharon Neal of Randolph; four grandchildren, Mark Gregory, Steven Gregory, Cindy Medlin and Kimberly Fitts; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Gregory, Jacob Gregory, Eli Medlin and Cason Fitts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; three sisters, Joyce Flarety, Wilma Swanson and Juanita Daniels; and three brothers, Ralph Smith, Stell Smith and M.V. Smith.
Pallbearers were Ray Tate, Tony Medlin, Adam Fitts, Scotty McCormick, Gary McCormick and Glen Brown.
In his honor, United Funeral Service Inc. will fly the flag of the United States Army at the funeral home during visitation and service.
