Robert Lewis Swords, 52, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 10, 1960, in New Albany to Gaston Swords and Shirley Sloan Swords. He was an employee of the Mississippi Department of Transportation and a member of New Albany First Baptist Church. He always greeted everyone he met with a smile and a friendly word.

Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at United Funeral Service chapel in New Albany with the Rev. Andrew Basinger officiating. Burial was in Ingomar Cemetery. United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his daughter, Casandra Beth Watson (Matthew) of Dallas, N.C.; his twin sister, Lisbeth Spiller of St. Louis, Mo., and sister, Deborah Swords Basinger (Van) of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; a grandson, Charles Matthew Watson of Dallas, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Brenda Swords of Tupelo; a niece, Margaret Swords, and three nephews, Gabe Basinger, Andrew Basinger and Gaston Swords.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Gaston Swords.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BNA Bank for Charles Watson’s educational fund.
