Shirley Jean Minser, 76

Shirley Jean Minser, 76, of Oxford, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her home.
Fondly remembered by her family as “The Best Candy Maker In The World,” she had a green thumb and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and was a wonderful cook, often using vegetables from her garden. She was a member of Yellow Leaf Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry East officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Debi DeLong (Mike) of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Cathy Avent (Jim) of Oxford; one son, James Minser (Brenda) of New Albany; three sisters, Betty Helmkamp of Divernon, Ill., Pat Fregia of Arkansas and Sally Thompson of Nashville; five brothers, Bill Thompson of Dudzura, Calif., Bob Townsend of Moreno Valley, Calif., John Thompson of Alicia, Ark., David Thompson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Hank Thompson of Washington; and five grandchildren, Heather Minser, Andrew DeLong, Jamie Minser, Catherine Avent and Trey Minser.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Maude Thompson; her father, Henry Charles Thompson; her stepmother, Mary Eleanor Thompson; and a son, John Edward Minser.
