Urchins, Bearcats to battle in game three of north half

Baldwyn has forced game three for the 2A north half championship, holding on for a 2-1 over East Union.

Twice postponed due the weather, both teams took the field on Sunday, and it was a showdown between pitchers Dustin Kirk and Cody Bo Dillard.

Reggie Richey registered the first hit for either team in the second inning, and but the Urchins were on the board first in the fourth inning. With two outs, Tray Davis hit a double and was plated by Tyler Hutcheston to put East Union up 1-0.

Baldwyn quickly responded, tying the game in the bottom half of the fourth, and the Bearcats took the lead in the fifth, loading the bases and going ahead 2-1 on a sacrifice fly out by Bishop Davis.

Dustin Kirk held the Urchins to no hits in the final three innings of the game and is credited with holding the East Union offense to only three hits in the game.

On the mound for East Union, Cody Bo Dillard pitched the complete game, finishing with nine strikeouts.

The two teams will battle again on Monday at Baldwyn, with the winner advancing to the 2A state championships, beginning on Wednesday in Pearl.

Game three is set for a 6 p.m. start.
