Forrest Lessel, 90

Forrest Woodford Lessel, 90, of Pontotoc, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi and had been a resident of Mississippi State Veteran’s Home in Oxford.
He was born May 30, 1923, in Blue Springs to James Robert and Ruth Ann Hollimon Lessel. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He retired from Amour & Company in Memphis. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Pontotoc and a former member of Fairlawn Baptist Church in Memphis.
He was known in the community as “The Lawnmower Man.” He was a loving husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, uncle, and a friend to many.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, at United Funeral Service with the Rev. Kara Blackard officiating. Burial was in Fairfield Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Howe Lessel; his daughter, Janie Lessel Weisberger (Al) of Fisherville, Tenn.; a step-son, Randy Robbins (Alyssa) of Olive Branch; two grandchildren, Jeff and Allison; four step-grandchildren, Danny, Christina, Michael and Jennifer; four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Georgia, Shelby and Fera; three step-great-grandchildren, Jared, Dalton and Gracie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Fera Thomason Lessel; two sisters, Orelia Pannell and Bernie Mae Rogers; and three brothers, Marvin, Howard, and Curnie Lessel.
The family requests memorials be made to Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford.
In honor of Mr. Lessel’s service to his country, United Funeral Service flew the U.S. Army Flag during his visitation and service.
