Toyota Mississippi helps sponsor Dance Like The Stars

The 2013 Dance Like The Stars is August 24, and it promises to be the biggest year yet for Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi! On May 21, the BGCNMS Corporate Board of Directors hosted its Annual Greet The Stars Party during a rooftop reception at Park Heights Restaurant. Dancers were greeted by Board members, staff and former dancers who all offered words of encouragement and expressed gratitude for each dancer’s participation.
Also on that evening, a very special announcement was made by Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi, Inc. who announced they would join BGCNMS as the presenting sponsor for the 2013 Dance Like The Stars. Masafumi Hamaguchi, President of Toyota Mississippi, presented Julianne Goodwin, Vice President of BGCNMS, with a contribution in the amount of $20,000. “We are so thankful for the commitment of Toyota to Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi and our entire community,” stated Goodwin.
Evie Boyd, Director of Marketing and Special Events for BGCNMS, was happy to announce that this year’s dancers have already raised an astonishing $70,000. “We can’t begin to express how grateful we are to our dancers who have already raised this amazing amount. We have only just begun and we are confident that with the help of the North Mississippi community, we will meet our fundraising goal of
$200,000,” stated Boyd. Last year’s event broke past fundraising records with a total of over $175,000. Rhonda Hanby was named event Grand Champion by raising over $61,000. Hanby broke the record set by Dance Celebrity Desiree Carnathan who raised over $40,000 in 2009.
This year’s lineup includes: Dr. Anne Haire, Peggi Phillips, Amanda Hayden, Ashley Buse, George Stone, KC Grist, Barbara Clements, Judy Hill and Emily Leonard all representing Tupelo, Matt Koon representing New Albany, Laquita Wilkerson representing Ripley and Ruby Lee Lancaster representing Houston. A special performance will be given by Margaret and Katherine King, twin sisters from Oxford.
This is the eighth annual Dance Like The Star Event. The event was first started in 2006 and more than 70 community volunteers have participated. Volunteers agree to learn a professional ballroom dance routine with a professional partner from Tupelo’s The Dance Studio, but more importantly, they agree to raise funding for BGCNMS. The dancer raising the most money is named the event Grand Champion.
BGCNMS is hoping to exceed attendance and fundraising numbers for 2013. For ticket information, please call 662-841-6504 ext. 4.
