Football on Friday

It’s time for Friday night lights. The high school football fields will be lit for the first home games of the year this Friday. It’ll be hot, but that is expected in August as the New Albany Bulldogs and East Union Urchins play their first home games.

At East Union, it will be a special evening as the Urchins inaugurate their new field and their new stadium across the street from the school. Last year the team played its home games at BNA Bank Park.

After an inaugural ceremony, the Urchins will play Middleton in a game that will be remembered by East Union fans as a milestone in the school’s athletic history.

In New Albany, the football team will attempt to bounce back against Itawamba after a close loss last week at Water Valley. Kitchens Field is a great place to watch high school football.

But as we have said before, New Albany games are not just about football. Each year as we look around the stands, we notice how much football is a real representation of our community.

When we look at the faces in the crowd, we see toddlers to senior citizens – African American, white, Hispanic, Asian. It’s in our schools and at our school functions that our community really comes together as one.

We always look forward to high school football season. We hope you do, too. And we hope to see you at a game.
