COLUMBUS — The second of three finalists for Columbus schools superintendent has withdrawn.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that Isaac “Ike” Leon Haynes made the announcement Wednesday.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Martha Liddell is the only remaining candidate of the three finalists.

The school board intends to announce the new superintendent Thursday.

Haynes, who is currently serving his second term as the elected superintendent of the Jefferson Davis County School District in Prentiss, participated in a public interview last week with the school board.

He says wants to build on the work done in Jefferson Davis County.

Dr. Pamela Henson, director of instructional support for the Baldwin County Board of Education in Bay Minette, Ala., also interviewed for the post but withdrew over the weekend.
