CORINTH – A Corinth man will be arraigned in municipal court at 10 a.m. today on charges of homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Detective Capt. Ralph Dance.
Demarlen Obryan Davis, 25, of 1316 Dickey St., Corinth, was arrested Tuesday night at the scene of a shooting in which Karson Stewart, 22, of Sawyer Road, was shot in the face, said police Chief David Lancaster. She later died at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Davis remains in Alcorn County Jail.
The investigation revealed that Davis and Stewart had been in a relationship, and witnesses said that earlier in the day Tuesday Davis had threatened to kill Stewart and had a gun.
The two were outside an unoccupied residence at 602 Martin Luther King Drive, Corinth, when the shooting happened, Dance said.
Police were called to the scene about 9:40 p.m. and found Stewart in the front seat of her vehicle with a gunshot wound to the face, and Davis standing beside the vehicle. He was immediately taken into custody, and Dance said after a search the gun was recovered from a drainage ditch some distance away.
A search continues for a witness, and anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call Dance at the Corinth Police Department at (662) 286-3377.
