Ole Miss to present

free opera events

The University of Mississippi Opera Theatre Program will present a pair of free performances titled, “A Tribute to American Composers.”

At 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, Ole Miss will present “The Tender Land” by Aaron Copeland, “Wuthering Heights” by Carlise Floyd and “The Ballad of Baby Doe” by Douglas Moore.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, “Signor Deluso” by Thomas Pasatieri and “Meanwhile, Back at Cinderella’s” by Dennis Arlan will be presented.

Second HolidayFest

set for Nov. 29

Mississippi State University will present its second annual HolidayFest on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the MSU Colvard Union.

The HolidayFest features holiday music presented by the MSU Music Education Department and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony featuring MSU’s Black Voices Gospel Choir.

At 5:30, visitors will be able to have pictures taken with Santa, decorate ornaments for the Union Christmas Tree, get faces painted and bring a toy for the Junior Auxiliary’s “Toy Drive.” The holiday concert will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Christmas tree lighting at 7:30 p.m.

Calhoun City parade

scheduled for Dec. 3

Calhoun City’s 2001 Christmas Parade will start at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3.

The theme for this year’s parade is “A Patriotic Christmas,” and veterans are invited to participate.

There’s a $5 registration fee, but $50 will be paid to each float entry and $100 will be paid to each band entry.

The deadline to enter is Friday, Nov. 30.

Rienzi to focus on

Old Time Christmas’

The theme for the 2001 Rienzi Christmas Parade is “An Old Time Christmas in Rienzi.”

The event kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.

Wheeler parade

set for Dec. 2

The 2001 Wheeler Christmas Parade will be sponsored by the Wheeler Fire Department, Girl Scout Troop 613 and Cub Scout Pack 111.

The event will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Wheeler Fire Department.
