COLUMBUS — Two women have died after their stalled vehicle was struck by a truck.

Angela Dame, 44, and Taetha Young, 19, both of Macon, died Thursday night in the wreck on U.S. 82 in Columbus, The Commercial Dispatch reports.

Antonio Gregory, also of Macon, was driving a Ford Crown Victoria when it stalled. Authorities say Gregory had exited the vehicle to check the engine when the car was hit from behind by an 18-wheeler driven by Timothy Lee Webb.

Lowndes County Deputy Coroner Tim Hamilton says Dame, the front seat passenger, died on the scene of blunt force trauma. Young was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and died in surgery.

Hamilton says it’s unclear if the women were wearing seat belts but says the vehicle had emergency flashers on.
