TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — The Tupelo Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Department will share a $31,000 law enforcement assistance grant.
The money comes from the Byrne Formula Justice Assistance Grant program and is handed out based on an area’s crime and population numbers.
Sheriff Jim Johnson says this is the second year the county and city have received the dollars, which help in many ways.
Johnson says the county will use its share to buy some rifles and stun guns.
Police officials say the money will be used for an improved fingerprinting machine and other needs.
