Booneville woman dies after Natchez Trace accident

news_accident_greenHOUSTON – A Booneville woman died Friday evening after the car she was driving veered off the Natchez Trace and struck a tree.

Tresa Sue Pitts, 34, was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, and later was pronounced dead by Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine, according to a Natchez Trace Parkway press release. A passenger in the Chevrolet Geo Prism she was driving, 33-year-old Charles Key of Booneville, was injured and also taken to the hospital. His condition was not released.

No other vehicles were involved.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. near milepost 236, near Houston. U.S. Park Rangers, Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Chickasaw County Sheriff Office responded to the scene.
