Five kilometers is just a little more than three miles.
But the Hopes Steps Forward run/walk this Saturday in the Brewer community of Lee County aims to bridge wider gaps in understanding and awareness for brain tumor patients.
To so many people, the diagnosis of a primary brain tumor is a swift and automatic death sentence.
“None of us a have a crystal ball,” said Tupelo neurologist Dr. Rhodemarie Maron, who founded the walk last year. “You have to live each day fully…. Sometimes, people can keep going with it.”
The race will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Brewer Community Center in south Lee County. Entry forms are available at Brewer Grocery, Tupelo Neurology and Trails and Treads in Tupelo. For more information, call Elise at (662) 844-7021.
The race fee is $20. Proceeds from the second annual run will go to the North Mississippi Medical Center cancer patient assistance fund. The NMMC Cancer Center also hosts the monthly Gray Matters Support Group for patients and their caregivers.
