LEE COUNTY – Firefighters from all around the Birmingham Ridge community fought a fire at a rubbish site for hours Thursday morning.
Birmingham Ridge Fire Chief B.J. Buse said the fire at the Timco rubbish site on Birmingham Ridge road started around 6 a.m.
Firefighters from Birmingham Ridge, Alpine, East Union, Palmetto, Cedar Hill, Guntown and Belden volunteer fire departments help fight the blaze until close to 10 a.m.
Buse said numerous departments responded because they needed so much water to keep the fire down while dirt was poured over the rubbish site to keep the fire covered up.
Buse said he doesn’t know what caused the fire.
