A narcotics officer has been chosen officer of the year in the Lee County Sheriff’s Department for 1995.

Danny Dillard was given the title earlier this month. His name will be included with previous winners on a plaque located in the hall of the sheriff’s department at 301 Front St.

Sheriff Harold Ray Presley said Dillard received the most votes in balloting by the department’s 49 deputies and jail personnel. Department administrators – including Presley, Chief Deputy Steve Brooks and Jail Administrator Benny Carson – did not vote.

Dillard, 31, started with the sheriff’s department in 1991 as a jailer. In 1993, he was placed on patrol and about a year later he went to the narcotics division.

Dillard, a native of Lee County, is married and has two children.
