Aberdeen looks to run its own animal shelter

ABERDEEN – The city of Aberdeen recently voted 3-2 on a proposal to run its own animal shelter.
After meeting with the county supervisors, Mayor Cecil Belle proposed that the city of Aberdeen manage the shelter for a fixed amount and the county would provide one full-time paid employee.
The Animal Shelter is currently operated by a staff of volunteers. Volunteers will continue to work at the shelter.
Belle said the proposal would help the city as well as the county provide better animal control. Other entities need to vote and approve the move before it takes effect.
