ABERDEEN — During open session of its monthly meeting, the Aberdeen School Board approved the district’s strategic plan regarding its goals for the future and a field trip for the Air Force ROTC program to Memphis’ IMAX theater.

During the public comments section, the board also heard from Lou Ellen Childers regarding the school prayer issue.

“I’m glad to see you’re allowing a prayer before your school board meetings, but not being able to say a prayer before ballgames is just the tip of the iceberg; I want to encourage you to not stand idly by. Don’t yield to this and please explain to the state school board to not back down with this issue,” Childers said.

She informed the board about the Liberty Council’s pro bono representation of a north Florida school district that resulted in not only the school prayer ban being overturned, but also reinstated the use of Bibles in the school as well.
