Absentee balloting 'great' for Booneville beer vote

BOONEVILLE – Absentee balloting has picked up as the city heads for an Aug. 17 vote on whether to legalize beer sales and possession, the city clerk said Friday.
LaVaile Barkley said 45 absentee ballots had either been cast or requested. She described it as “going great.”
Her office will be accept absentee ballots on weekdays through Aug. 13, and on the two Saturdays before the election.
The vote will determine whether the sale, distribution and possession of beer and light wines of less than 5 percent alcohol content by weight will be legal in the city limits of Booneville.
