BOONEVILLE – Eight Prentiss County organizations have additional funding to pursue their missions with a donation of $80,000 from ACCO Brands Corp.

The office products manufacturer announced the donations to the organizations last month:

• American Cancer Society Relay for Life, $4,000

• Booneville and Prentiss County Main Street Association, $5,000

• Booneville School District, $7,500

• Prentiss County Goodfellows, $7,500

• Booneville Boys & Girls Club, $10,000

• Booneville Junior Auxiliary, $11,000

• United Way, $15,000

• Booneville Cultural Arts, $20,000

Each donation will be used to serve the needs of Prentiss County residents.

“ACCO came to the Prentiss County Development Association and my office saying they wanted to do something for the community,” said Mayor Derrick Blythe. “We gave them some ideas and they came back with the list of projects they wanted to support.”

A Christmas tree lighting was held in downtown Booneville last weekend after the $5,000 donation to Main Street made the project possible, he said. Along with the financial donations, ACCO employees made additional decorative items to display in downtown. The $20,000 donation to the Cultural Arts Committee will be used, along with $15,000 committed by the city, to do much-needed work at the old Booneville Hardware building, which has been used for several years as a cultural arts center.

“This money is going to be a huge shot in the arm to do some things that need to be done,” the mayor said. “We’ll be able to address some electrical and structural issues and do some needed window work to make the appearance nicer.”
