Ackerman mayor to be paid less in next term

ACKERMAN — The next mayor in Ackerman will make substantially less that the current city leader.

In a recent 4-1 vote, the board of aldermen voted to pay the mayor $18,000 a year beginning in the next term for the part-time job in the city of a little over 1,500 people.

WTVA-TV reports that Mayor Dick Cain is paid $48,000 a year. Cain says he will not veto the reduction in pay for the next mayor.

Alderman say the mayor’s salary was too high for a part-time job and too high when compared to cities of similar size.
