JACKSON — Actress Cassandra “Cassi” Davis was honored Wednesday by the Mississippi Legislature.
Davis grew up in the north Mississippi town of Holly Springs and starred as the character of Ella Payne in “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.” She has also starred in several of Perry’s films.
Davis received a standing ovation from the House when she took the podium. She told lawmakers that she always tries to represent her home state well and that there is no place better than Mississippi.
House Concurrent Resolution 91 says Davis graduated from Holly Springs High School and Spelman College in Atlanta.
Davis was joined Wednesday by relatives and hometown friends. She asked House members whether they praise the Lord in the chamber, and lawmakers enthusiastically responded “yes.”
