OXFORD – Want a fish pen pal? Researchers behind the Adopt-A-Crappie program hope fishermen will help pay for radio tags to help learn more about the game fish’s spawning habits. Donation levels from $25 to $200 will get donors anything from a one-eighth claim on a crappie and occasional e-mails about its location to the right to name a fish, have it posted on www.crappie101.com and text messages any time it is located.
The program is a joint project of the University of Mississippi and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. To learn more, call Glenn Parsons at (662) 915-7479 or log on to www.crappie101.com.
