TUPELO – Tupelo’s Association for Excellence in Education will award 17 grants to the city school district’s teachers this year, totaling $66,268.
Tupelo’s school board approved the grants during Tuesday’s meeting.
They will be announced during AEE’s banquet April 19 at Thomas Street Elementary School.
AEE is an organization designed to raise private money to fund public school projects that aren’t covered by local, state or federal money.
Teachers submit applications for the grants.
AEE will also award about $20,000 in incentive awards to high-quality Tupelo teachers on May 21.
Educators also submitted applications for these awards, which will be given for the first time this year.
