Aging bus fleet a concern for Itawamba school board

FULTON – Itawamba County’s school district may find itself in need of some new school buses in the near future.
During their regular meeting last week, members of the school board heard a report from Itawamba County School District Transportation Director Glyn Robinson, who talked about rising school bus repair costs due to aging.
Tony Wallace, board chairman, suggested the board try to fit at least two new buses a year into the school budget.
In past years, the school district’s transportation department used a rotation program that replaced the oldest buses annually. That program was phased out due to budget restrictions.
According to Robinson, only one new bus was bought this year and it was a handicapped bus. The last full-size buses were bought two years ago.
The board took the situation under advisement until a future meeting.
