An Alabama pilot had quite a story to tell at a Hamilton restaurant Saturday after he survived a plane crash the night before and then walked away.

Ricky Ford III is alive after crashing his plane late Friday night in Hamilton behind the Tronox plant, Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said.

Ford, of Irvington, Ala., was able to make his way from the crash scene into a local restaurant Saturday afternoon around 3:30 and said he had crashed his plane, Cantrell said. Authorities were immediately called. Ford was treated for injuries that are not believed to be serious, the sheriff said.

Cantrell said the crash took place around 11 p.m. Friday in some swamp area behind the Tronox plant. Ford was coming from Louisville.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been called by Cantrell and the accident is under investigation.
