Alcorn approves FY2014 budget

Alcorn StockCORINTH – Alcorn County supervisors on Tuesday approved a 2014 fiscal year budget that begins Oct. 1, of $15,777,222 that contains no increase in the ad valorem tax.

Total county ad valorem millage is 105.76 mills, of which county operations will be supported by 53 mills and county schools by 49.76 mills, also with no increase.

District 3 Supervisor Tim Mitchell noted concern that the 911 budget of almost $593,634 is not fully supported by the income from landline phone service and must be subsidized from the county general fund.

He said entities such as Corinth Police Department and Corinth Fire Department that are served by 911 should be asked to share in the cost.
