Alcorn County and Corinth remove $250,000 from Corinth Area CVB budget

CORINTH – In a joint meeting today of the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors and the Corinth Board of Aldermen the group voted by an 8-3 margin to redirect $250,000 from the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau/Tourism Council budget to the Crossroads Arena.

All members of the Board of Supervisors voted in favor of the motion offered by Ward 1 Alderman Andrew “Bubba” Labas and seconded by District 5 Supervisor Jimmy Tate Waldon. Dissenters were Ward 2 Alderman Ben Albarracin, Ward 3 Alderman A.L. “Chip” Wood and Ward 5 Alderman Michael McFall.

The issue has been pending since mid-August when members of the Board of Supervisors directed the CVB to allocate $250,000 of its $567,000 FY 2013 budget request to the Crossroads Arena. While the CVB made a counter-proposal that would have allocated $150,000 to be divided equally between the Crossroads Arena and the Crossroads Regional Park for marketing, promotion and capital projects, the compromise budget was rejected by both county and city boards last week, requiring the joint meeting to adopt a CVB budget for FY 2013.
