Alcorn County backs Tippah County project

CORINTH – Alcorn County supervisors on Monday agreed to act as agent for the Chalybeate Water Association on an application for a Community Development Block Grant facilities grant.
If approved, the grant will enlarge water lines for about 100 Alcorn County customers of the Tippah County-based system and add another 15 customers who are served by the system, said Johnny Crotts, the Cook Coggin engineer who works closely on county projects.
The request was made to Alcorn County because it must be sponsored by a government entity, and Tippah County already has an ongoing CDBG facilities project, and only one can be in place at any given time.
Approving the project will not inhibit Alcorn County’s ability to seek other CDBG block grants which may be needed for economic development, Crotts said.
