CORINTH – Alcorn County will receive a 15 percent rate reduction in its Blue Cross Blue Shield employee health insurance premium cost for the 2015 fiscal year.

The contract that begins Aug. 1 will have a monthly rate per employee that is $88.95 lower than the current premium, insurance broker Sammy Smith told the Board of Supervisors on Monday.

The reduction is largely due to the county not having any extraordinary claims during the previous plan year, Smith said.

Rates effective Aug. 1, will be $1,160.88 per month for employee and spouse, down from $1,365.74, and $1,488.07 for employee and family, down from $1,750.67 for the previous contract.
