CORINTH – One Alcorn County Sheriff’s deputy is on paid leave after an exchange of gunfire between him and an Alcorn County man.
Two Alcorn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call shortly after 6 p.m. Monday on County Road 100.
“Shortly thereafter – we’re unclear exactly what happened right now – but there was an exchange of gunfire,” said Alcorn County Investigator Tommy Hopkins. “It’s unclear as to what transpired there, but we’re looking into it on all sides.”
Once the man was arrested, Hopkins said the deputies found the man’s wife had suffered a gunshot wound to her neck.
She was transported to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where Hopkins said he has heard conflicting reports on her condition.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations will take over the investigation since an Alcorn County deputy is involved.
Hopkins said the disturbance call was made to 911 in reference to a family member who had left the scene before the deputies arrived.
