CORINTH – Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps has authorized his department to resume sending state inmates to the Alcorn County Regional Jail effective Dec. 17.

The commissioner issued a press release Thursday saying that the county’s decision to contract with Mississippi Corrections Management has satisfied him that the county’s violations of state law and MDOC policies in permitting leave to unapproved inmates will be resolved.

Epps suspended transfer of state inmates to the facility in November after an inmate who was not eligible died while on leave to visit his mother.
