Alcorn County resident arrested for Child Pornography

An Alcorn County man has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Attorney General’s Office , announced Attorney General Jim Hood.

The arrest was made by investigators of the Attorney General’s Office with assistance from the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office as part of Mississippi’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Jarrod Newman, 30, of 9 RD 255 A, Glen, MS, was arrested at his home Monday, November 9, and charged with two counts of possession of child porn. He is currently being held in the Alcorn County jail. No court appearances have yet been set.

“The penalty for possession of child porn is five to 40 years per count in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC),” said Attorney General Jim Hood.

If convicted, Newman faces up to 80 years behind bars.

As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
