Alcorn County resident going to jail for possession of child porn

CORINTH – An Alcorn County man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
Jarrod Kyle Newman, 32, pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of child pornography and was sentenced by Circuit Judge Jim Pounds, the state attorney general’s office said.
Newman was arrested at his home in 2009 after an investigation by the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to 10 years in prison, with five to serve, Newman must pay $1,000 in fines; $1,000 to the Mississippi Crime Victim’s Fund; $1,000 to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund; and must register as a sex offender.
